PM KISAN Scheme launch programme organized by KVK East Sikkim.
As part of the simultaneous nationwide launch of the “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana” (PM-Kisan), ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim organized a day long programme at Seminar Hall of ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong on February 24, 2019. On this occasion, the live telecast of Prime Minister’s speech regarding the launch of the scheme was arranged as per the direction of the competent authority in the presence of as many as 250 Nos. of farmers and rural youths of the East district and other delegates.
The programme was initiated by a welcome address given by Dr. Ravikant Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong. In his welcome address, he briefed about the scheme and said that Rs. 6,000/- would be given to small and marginal farmer families of combined landholdings and ownership up to 2 ha under this scheme with 100 per cent funding from the Central Government. He added that the amount will be given to them in 3 instalments of Rs. 2000/- each and it will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries.
Shri Ganga Prasad, Honourable Governor of Sikkim graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech to the august gathering, he detailed about the PM-Kisan Yojana. Honourable Governor urged the farmers to give more importance on soil health management, dairy farming, bee keeping and formation of village co-operative. He also gave more thrust on value addition and marketing.
Shri Khorlo Bhutia, Secretary, FS&ADD, Govt. of Sikkim attended the programme as a Guest of Honour. In his address, he detailed about the different ongoing flagship programmes of agriculture in Sikkim. Addressing the gathering, he briefed on importance of planning and accounting to doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. He also urged the farmers and service providers for convergence of technology and financial resources to achieve the goal.
The programme was also attended by Mr. K.B. Bhattarai, Dy. Secy. to Governor of Sikkim, Dr. Manoj Sandhwar, OSD to the Governor of Sikkim, Mr. R.B. Bhandari, SDM, Gangtok, Mrs. Bina Rai, Joint Director, FS&ADD, Govt. of Sikkim, all the scientists of ICAR-NOFRI, Subject Matter Specialists of KVK East Sikkim and many more.
At the end of the programme Dr. Raghavendra Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK East Sikkim proposed the vote of thanks. In his speech, he well appreciated the efforts of all the SMSs of KVK East Sikkim for smooth running of the programme.
